That Collarwali, the legendary "Queen of Pench" tigress (T15), passed away in January 2022 at 16 years is no longer a headline, what lingers in memory is that grand cremation funeral rites she was deservedly accorded.

She had been known as a "Supermom," giving birth to a record-setting number of 29 cubs across eight litters, and playing a vital role in strengthening the tiger population in Madhya Pradesh’s Pench Tiger Reserve, Indian.

More About Collarwali:

She gave birth to 29 cubs- including several large litters—in 8 litters, a significant contribution to the wild tiger population.

She was affectionately referred as the "Supermom" or "Queen of Pench," a symbol of hope and recovery for the species in central India.

She was also the first tigress in the Pench Tiger Reserve to be fitted with a radio collar for tracking in 2008, which provided valuable data to researchers.

Following her death, she was given a respectful funeral, including a cremation ceremony with traditional rituals and floral offerings, to honor her contribution to conservation.

Many of her 29 cubs survived and established territories of their own, helping to increase the population of tigers in and around the Pench Reserve.

Collarwali’s death was deeply mourned by locals and wildlife enthusiasts, with tributes highlighting that her legacy continues to live on through her numerous offspring.
