REAN Collaborate Fire Service To  Reduce Renewable Energy Fire Outbreaks

The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) has partnered with the Federal Fire Service to curb fire outbreaks associated with renewable energy installations in the country.

The collaboration was disclosed during a courtesy visit by REAN leadership to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, as part of efforts to strengthen safety standards in Nigeria’s solar and renewable energy sector.

REAN said the partnership was aimed at improving system reliability, reducing safety risks, and building public confidence in renewable energy technologies.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the deployment of renewable energy solutions across the country.

It added that as Nigeria expands access to clean and reliable energy, it will continue to support initiatives that strengthen standards, enhance consumer protection, and ensure that the energy transition contributes positively to national development.

During the meeting, both organisations identified areas of collaboration, including improving installation standards, promoting fire safety awareness, and educating renewable energy practitioners on preventive measures and emergency response protocols.

The engagement also focused on sensitising the public on the safe deployment of renewable energy technologies, particularly solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

REAN emphasised that solar PV systems are not inherently prone to fire incidents, noting that most cases are linked to substandard components, poor system design, and improper installation or maintenance practices.

The association further highlighted its ongoing engagements with regulatory and standards bodies, including the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), to strengthen compliance with quality standards, promote certified technologies, and encourage the use of trained professionals across the sector

According to REAN, these efforts are expected to improve system reliability, reduce safety risks, and enhance public confidence in renewable energy deployment nationwide.
